Silent film
Remarks: A non-linear silent film, Un Chien andalou relies on images. Male desire runs throughout, but the woman’s resistance surprises me. Instead of summitting entirely to the man’s touches, she pushes him away at first and eventually she leaves him. At the same time, the man is surrounded by images of castration. It follows that a non-submissive woman can only exist when the man is lacking. That message is not feminist by any means but rather a reflection of male anxiety.
